So im just about to buy my first mig welder, now i think i would prefer gasless, i have came across 2 on ebay that look like good staters machines by the name if "Sip cosmo", are they any good, the cheapest one is at £99.99 and is 90 amp but has no feedrate ajuster thing, and comes with some accessories like gloves, extra spool of wire, mask and so on.There is another that is "ex stock" and is cheaper but is 100amp, but comes with no accesories but has more features, what would be the best one for a begginer who is just learning, there are some better brands like clark and drapper for a little extra money, and few folk has commented on spending a little extra to get a better quilty maching as it would be better on the long run
Reply:I just got my first welder and have only done about 30 seconds of "real" welding. The rest has just been practicing making sparks. But I've bought PLENTY of tools. Unless you know the in's and out's of the device, I would recommend that you get something new from the store for the first shot. It will have a warranty, a manual and someplace to complain if things don't work right. A used unit from a welding supply place might be ok, they are usually pretty supportive.I'd also stick to a know big-name brand. If you are really going to use the tool, the couple quid you save from a mail-order knock-off will mean nothing in a few years. Save the frustration and get a decent product.Sorry, not much real brand advice, but if you buy a machine with a shoddy wire feed or dodgy power, you'll just get frustrated and quit. Money wasted. Get something decent that you know you can master. Money well spent.Azlar
Reply:I agree w/ Azlar. If you buy a good machine to start with, you'll learn faster and have a lot less frustration. I think it's bad for a noob to have to deal w/ an erratic machine w/ very little adjustments while just starting.   Go ahead and spend the extra for a machine that will use gas. Down the road you'll be glad you did when something very thin needs welding.                           JMHO,                                   MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:What they said. Keep in mind that the accessories that usually come with lower end machines are pure crap. A mig without an adjustable feed rate would basically be unuseable.
