Do you have to do anything special storing your filler and rods? Or can they just sit in the garage in some pvc holders?
Reply:Storing filler..It just stays in the orig box untill its all gone..Just wipe it down as you use it..Rods should be kept in a closed "enviroment" free of humidity..But not too many actually do that..Our rods here are just in a cabinet in the tin they come in.....zap!Last edited by MicroZone; 08-03-2007 at 10:58 AM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:30 years ago, a friend gave me ~20 pounds of 1\8" 6012 rods. He said he preferred 7014's. I welded a little tray to hold them on the top of my double-barreled wood stove. They get reconditioned every time I start a fire. Except for a very light coat of white powder on them, they weld today just as well as when I got 'em.Low hydrogen rods, however, need to to be hermetically sealed from the atmosphere when not in use, lest they turn to crap. They will soak up moisture in the air like a sponge. Some coated brazing rods do the same.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!
Reply:TIG filler stays in the original box. Stick rods stay in the original can (Lo-hy in the oven, the rest in a cabinet, except the 6011 that lives in my truck with the portable machine) |
