Get paid to train for the career you have always wanted with our on the job welding and blueprintclasses.        has anybody appliled for jobs like this both for ships and stuctual steel fab jobs and do they really show u anything on blueprints, anybody have any good or bad exprences,and is it hard getting hired on in shipyards for entry level jobs anybody have info would be great    thanks for your time
Reply:I am kind of confused.  Are you offering a job or asking for one?It depends on the shipyard.  Some can be easier than others.  Some require you to have 3+ years related experience and pass a weld test.  Some just require a weld test.  Some will hire as laborer and let you practice welding until you pass the weld test.Some train you with blueprints.  Some don't.  Beware, some of those ads have a phone number that leads you directly to a Navy recruiter.

Reply:yeah sounds like i just have to go thier and check it out,anybody know anything about nassco or grand junction steel anything good or bad? colorado rail car is hiring for fitters but they hire out of a employment agency in penn tsi profssionals stay away from those goof balls,,,,, seems to me when it comes to working on trains ins't a welding job but like a career of it's own.
Reply:Jeffboat in Jeffersonville, IN is hiring.  There is a welding evaluation test (1 horizontal & 1 vertical fillet weld w/6010) to see how long they think you'd be in weld school, and they pay $10/hr while in school.  They can transfer you to actual work at any time, but you are free to use the school to get your certifications after that.  3rd class welder (tacker) pays $14/hr, 2nd class (flat welding) $16.75, and 1st class (all position) gets $19.50 plus free set of leathers and a Optrel OSE hood.  Time and a half over 40 hours/Saturdays, and double time if you work a Sunday.  There is lots of mandatory overtime, and it is HOT dirty work.  But they teach you to weld.  I've been in the school 5 weeks, and just finished my 1st class certification, some people got sent out after a week, some after 3 or 4.You need some experience (I just put "numerous small projects" and listed one MIG project I did), and to practice with a stick welder for a few hours.  I only ran 2 lbs. of 6010 a few days before my test, before that I never touched a stick welder before.Jeffboats number is (812)288-0100PatrickLincoln 175HD
