I don't know much about plasma cutters but it looks like to me what they are is a arc welder that blows air to blow the molten metal away instead of letting it fuse back together. If that is basicly what it is why are they so much more than a regular arc welder.I know I have to be missing something here so can someone explain why the price is so expensive.
Reply:What you describe is more or less carbon arc gouging. Plasma cutters use a lot of electronics to keep the arc as controlled as it is in a package so small. Same reason why you can buy a pretty hefty TIG welder in the $3000 range, but a Dynasty unit will set you back more than twice that.
