NEED HELP! Welder wire travel

Hey there. Got a problem. I let a friend use my welder and he finished off a spool through it. I have been trying to put a new spool of wire in, but I thread it in and it travels very smoothly with just right tension on it till the wire gets almost to my gun and then it stops in its tracks and begins to bow the wire where it enters the liner at the grooved wheel inside that feeds it. I have taken the torch assembly apart and it is happening just before it is making into the gun itself. I know this based on the length of wire I pulled from the cord 2 times trying to get this working. It is all apart so I am waiting for ideas to get this working. I am in a fight with it that ensued last night and has carried and resumed this morning.I will await ideas. Thanks guysWhitey
Reply:try to take out the liner and see if has a kink in it or try to push some wire through the other end of the liner to see if it is not blocked.some times it just may be that the liner is a bit short in the defuser and is catching on the inner seat of defuser or the contact tip.the day you stop learning in this tradeis the day your in your grave
Reply:It sounds like it is kinked to me as youv'e stated it stops just before the gun, try a new liner. Reply:Try taking a file or piece of sandpaper to the end of the wire.  Sometimes the end was cut with a pair of snips or mig pliers, leaving a burr that catches in the liner.If that doesn't work, then pull the liner and inspect for kinks.  Since a friend used the machine, he may have unknowingly kinked the lead.Sometimes, if you're using a small spool (2#) the wire will take a set and make initial feeding difficult.Let us know what you find.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:ok. I ended up pulling the liner. It had a section about 3 inches long at the end before it ran into the gun that was full and packed with wire, crushed. I ended up pulling the liner from an older Mig gun I had of a welder that is the same. got it put in and now no power when I pull the trigger. I even opened it up and reversed the leads that attach to the trigger and it changed not. Still no power. Im aggravated and Ive just set it back, not sent it back, set it back till my patience and mind and you guys give me a new idea. ThanksBearbuck
Reply:check the wires going to triger and were the plug goes into machine , sounds like a loose wire some times if the sheath is jammed as you mentioned it will pull on the wires for gun trigger, had this happen at work from time to time , and just a sudjestion if you dont have one , put a wiper on the wire between spool and rollers , they realy cut down on debre going threw the liner.

Reply:Shake the hell out of the gun end while trying to feed it, you should not need to but maybe its hanging up.
