Hi,I have a bobcat,on my truck,I see it has 220 on it,can you hook up a wire welder on 1 of those?like  MILLER 350?I have one o these in my regular shop.
Reply:Your bobcat doesn'thave enough Kuhanas.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:The XMT 350 needs 54.6 amps of draw for a 230V primary. Your machine has up to about 45 amps on single phase 240V. You can run the 350 off the bobcat, but you will not have enough primary amperage to make the rated load. You'll just have to keep your welding kilowatts on the lower side of the XMT power range.Arguing with a Welding Engineer is like wrestling with a pig... after a while you realize the pig likes it
Reply:I can run anything off my Trailblazer.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:My dads bobcat has 8,000 Watts. 8,000 watts / 220 volts = 36 amps. DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:It depends on which bobcat you have.  there is an 8kw and a 10kw.   I have a 10kw Lincoln, and it will run my powermig 255 up to a point but not at full power.  Even if you have the available power it doesn't mean that it will pull the machine  the newer machines with circuit boards etc... need "clean" power and the closer you get to the max output of the Generator the dirtier the power gets.    You could hook up a voltage sensing wire feeder, or as I do keep a small mig like a powermig 140 or 180 to run off of the auxillary power.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:there is a bobcat that features three phase power, but you'd probably know it if you had it.
Reply:thanks for all the info!!!I probably need to go find me a portable tig rig. Here in the last couple of months I had a few people ask me to weld alum.I'm tired of running out to my shop 45 mins away to weld them.I just thought it was possible to use the mig welder on my miller. It is a 10,000 watter. Thanks again!!
Reply:If its and XMT 350 you are looking at using for tigging the aluminum, it won't work. No AC ouput on the XMT 350. Look into the Dynasty machines if its portable aluminum you need.Arguing with a Welding Engineer is like wrestling with a pig... after a while you realize the pig likes it
Reply:Just another quick thought. If you are thinking of wanting to do wire short arc welding, go with a small Millermatic like Hammack_Welding suggested. You will be happier with the arc quality and probably money ahead. If its flux core, the Bobcat with a volt sense feeder will work. Just keep in mind that the CV volt amp curves in that machine have a lot of slope.Last edited by reddoggoose; 08-17-2007 at 08:54 AM.Arguing with a Welding Engineer is like wrestling with a pig... after a while you realize the pig likes it
Reply:hey,if it will weld .125 alum,I'll try itthanks!!
Reply:well?I may have a line on a power mig 140 for 300.0looks like I need to go practice my alum  mig huh???hahaha
Reply:opps, looks like i'm going to need a kit.
Reply:If its a PM 140 then look at the spoolgun for a couple hundred bucks.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
