Somebody on Craigslist is avertising a 16hp generator/welder (20-190amps). It is brand new (07) in the crate with electric and pull start for $450. I called and he had 8 generators, and is down to 4. I googled and find no support for this product. I am very leery. What do you think? I do not know if it is a DC or AC welder. The guy did not weld, and he was not standing by the product. Has anybody heard of this brand? Is it worth the chance? It sure would be cool to have stick capability right out my truck.BrianHH135 MigEverlast PowerUltra 205Century heavy duty 250dc/295ac stickA/O system, victor 450 series gauges w/cutting torch and j100 torch.
Reply:If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Craigslist is filled with scammers because it's free. You have to use your best judgement when uying from there.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Does it have an engine that almost looks like a honda engine? My boss bought a bunch of generators and other junk off of ebay with these Chinese engines in them. Most of them last last 20-40 hours. Maybe it had an engine that you heard of it might be ok.

Reply:The guy bought the equipment at an auction. You can find a bunch of them at Richie Bros. auction site - www.rbauction.com. In the past these things have sold for US$250-USA$400. These were all crated/unused as well. You can see the equipment without registering.
Reply:I have one here that's 3 months old with a blown regulator. You can't get parts nor can you get a service manual. Bend over. The "Honda" engine is really a cheap Chinese copy of a Honda engine.Run. Run away fast.

Reply:...and the Chonda's rear seal leaked from the day they put oil in it. The muffler was cracked in four places right out of the crate. The vacuum nipple for the auto choke was craked off. There were no keys shipped with the unit.Other than that, it still was a real POS after that was all fixed. It's now sitting out behind the shop holding the tarp on the firewood pile. |
