Anyone know if it is possible to have a splitter that will work for 220v? Im obviously considering a larger welding machine, and the 220v is nessicary. Naturally I dont foresee my family excusing me for unplugging the dryer to do 'some stupid welding project' Im curious not only is it possible (surely it is) but will it beable to pull enough power to run both the welder and the dryer at the same time? Id really like to avoid the SERIOUS bill of having a 220v plug installed.... anyone anyone?oh also, what of extension cords (worst case scenario and i HAVE to swap around). Is a welder safe to run off a 220v ext. cord?regards, Rob
Reply:If the dryer is running, probably not. If the dryer isn't running, then it's the same as having the welder on a dedicated 30A circuit. Or am I missing something? All extension cords I know of are rated for at least 300V, some for 600V.
Reply:Of course it's possible, just don't run both at the same time without extra fuses on hand!! Our circuit of 1950's vintage still uses twin 50 amp buss fuses in a pull out block, good enough for my 230amp ac stick welder and not much else...at the same time! I use a 220 volt extension cord I made with at least 8 guage if not 6 guage wire and about 20 feet in length.City of L.A. Reply:Although not the most convenient solution, the safest is to keep the dryer plugged in and unplug it and plug in your welder extension cord when you want to weld. That way the other family members will not accidentally turn on the dryer while you are welding and (best case) blow the fuse/breaker. I say best case because I just found a 110 outlet in my house that was so hot you couldn't touch it and it melted and burned the plastic body and the insulation on the wires leading to it - the breaker didn't trip! I replaced the breaker along with the defective receptacle.JimCut an MGB and widened 11" C4 Corvette suspension and LT1 Chevrolet power & 6 spd. Reply:Thanks for the input guys. Safety is a big issue for me and definitly my family! Looks like a 220v ext cord is called for.Regards, Rob
Reply:If safety is the big deal let your family know that a piece of rope and a bag of clothes pins is the safest way to dry clothes. This will free up access to the 230 volt plug for you.
Reply:For some reason I dont see the 'owner' living without the superior technology of a dryer. She already made me spend $700 on a new dishwasher after I made the regretable gesture I had one with two working hands.
Reply:That's why brides wear white. We want the dishwasher to match the refrigerator...Having a receptacle or connector melt is 99% of the time the fault of the installer who didn't land the wires correctly.
Reply:If you want to turn your dishwasher into a snowblower give her a shovel.
Reply:I tried getting a new dishwasher but the wife wouldn't let her in.
