I picked up an older Smith flow meter with a repair tag attached. I believe it was repaired and never put back into service. My question is this. The meter is marked CO2. I would like to use it on a CO2/Argon mix. There is a different thread and stem(?). The one one the meter is flat where it seals when you tighten it to the supply bottle and my bottle takes one which is convex. I know I can get the parts to change this over but is this advised.Sorry I don't know the terms for all these parts. Please give me your expert advise. Thanks
Reply:They do make an adapter. I have one that goes each way. It will work fine. There is a little difference in Co2 and argon, but not enough to worry about. I have one flow guage that is marked on 4 sides with different gasses. C25, Argon and C02 are close.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Yes, you can change the nut and nipple to a CGA 580 for nitrogen, Argon, Helium , C-25 or Mixes. The nipple that gors into the regulator has the same threads going into the regulator and a western 15-3 nipple. Done every day.SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :

Reply:There are 4 sided flo-meters if you want put one on and yes they are different. listening is a good way to hear how much gas comes out, not perfect but can be close and doesn't cost to much.SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:Thanks for all the replies. I'll probably change the nipple tomorrow.
Reply:I picked up an adapter today and tried it out. Works great. Thanks again for the info. |
