silver solder question

ok I need some in put just had 2 little projects dropped in my lap and need some advise , I have 2 silver cups that the pewter handles have fallen off , I need to re solder them back on , ??? do I use pure lead ? or is there a low heat solder out there ?? being pewter is one of those mysterys as to how it will react to heat.

Reply:from what i understand about peweter, i wouldn't recommend lead. i don't know much abou tit, except what i saw on the history channel once. they said the older pewer stuff had a very high lead ocntent, making it corrosion-resistant and easy to work, but they changed the composistions of it later on... i guess the lead was some sort of health hazard for foodware. i woudl recommend the solder. rosin core solder woudl work i believe. it is recommended for electronics more than acid core/flux core becuase it won't corrode the base metal. the flux/acid core will probably eat away the pewter. you can get the rosin core stuff at radio shack or maybe home-depot. i woudl recommend staying away from the lead and acid/flux cored solders though. does anyone agree with me? like i said, i only remember a little bit of what the history channel said about it.hope that helps.later,Andy

Reply:I can use silver solder with the tig torch.  It works great with no flux.  I doubt it would work with pewter.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I've always been a big user of rosin-core solder over acid flux. Nicer looking, easier to use and doesn't corrode.
Reply:think I found the solder ,its melting point is 500so going to give it a try when I get it .
Reply:RadioShack. I have bought some Tin/lead solder you can use with a heat gun.
Reply:In the past i have seen in the United Kingdom a product made by Euctectic silver solder paste mixed with water and melted with a match i do not know if this is available in USA.
