I know one can run 3 phase machine tools in a single phase shop using static and rotary phase converters or a VFD, but can 3 phase welding equipment be run in a single phase shop using any of those methods? Thanks.
Reply:I looked into this a bit, if im not mistaken the rotary was the best for the application, the thing is that you will need a big 3P motor. Because of inefficiencies you need a motor that draws 30% more current. So if you needed a 100A 3P load you would need a motor that draws 130FLA.My numbers may be a bit off, but thats the basic idea.
Reply:So the VFD will not work with the welders?

Reply:no, you can't use a VFD for anything other than a motor... |
