i couldn't find the info i needed anywhere and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but ill try. I am in need of longer leads for my miller thunderbolt ac/dc welder. the ones that came with it are only about 7 ft. long which is good for nothing. i was wanting to know what size and length would be necessary. would 20 to 30 ft. of lead be too long?

Reply:How many amps does a thunderbolt go up to? What is the duty cycle. I think #3 is a little small, but need more info.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:7'???? Man, times have changed. Mine came with 15 footers at least. They were #4's I believe. I made Tweco QD whips for mine. 2' of #1 with the machine plug and the quick connect on them. That way, I could plug in and use the same leads I had on the truck. I have run 200' of combined #1 and 1/0 with no problems. Mine is a '88 model and used those irritating machine plugs. If you have the newer model, the leads are built in. You can still put QD's on those leads. Tweco #1MPC connectors would be the biggest you can use on the little leads on the machine. You may have to double up the lead in the connector for the connector to grab and lock down....depending on the lead size.
Reply:here is the link for it, i think all the info that is needed is herehttp://millerwelds.com/products/stic...bolt_xl_ac_dc/
Reply:I still don't know which one you have. If you go 25' of what ever is there, you should be fine. If you go fifty or more, I would go one size bigger than what came with the machine.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I always say , get (and use ) the biggest that you can AFFORD and are willing to carry, you won't be sorry. The bigger ones are cooling running and , naturally, have less resistance , and allow higher voltage . A buzz box needs ALL the help it CAN get.[SIZE="5"Yardbird"

Reply:Cut your cable ends off, go buy 2 sets of Tweco's, and 100' of 1/0 cable, cut in half. Instal Tweco's, and cable acordingly, and add ground clamp, and stinger. Bingo, banco, bongo, you have longer leads.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:^^^^^ What he said. ^^^^^Someday you may sell the welder and keep the leads.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Where the clamp and stinger are and it is not necessary to cut them, just remove the stinger and ground clamp for future use. And that is if you get two matched sets of quick disconnects. One pair for the two lead from the machine, and one pair for the new lead. Then put your same stinger and ground clamp back on the new lead. That way you can remove the new 50' leads if you need to and also add more on if you need to.Last edited by mooseye; 10-10-2007 at 08:05 PM.SA200,Ranger8,Trailblazer251NT,MM250,Dayton225AC,T D-XL75,SpoolMate3545SGA100C,HF-15-1 RFCS-14 When I stick it, it stays stuck!
