Leads For Air-arc

At work we use Lincoln DC 600's crancked almost all the way up to air-arc for shifts up to 12 hours.  The length of leads varies depending on location and whats lengths of leads are available, but normally there are one or two tweco connections somewhere along the line.  In almost no time at all the tweco connections are melted on the ground side. Turning the heat down is really not an option because productivity slows way down, but it is annoying having to fix a set of leads everytime you want to use them. All of the welders share leads wether you are welding that day or gouging, so to keep it simple all of leads are the same gauge and all connections are tweco.  Do you guys think it would make sense to have a larger diameter set of leads dedicated for air-arc, or do you know of a brand of connection that holds the heat better??2011 Dodge 3500 diesel duallyLincoln SA-200Lincoln SAE-300LN-25'sLincoln Idealarc R3RMiller Trailblazer 302
Reply:Don't laugh too hard, but it works to throw your connectors in a pail of water while you're working.  Been there, done that, running 400 (or so) amps through a torch for several hours. It helps to make sure the male half of the connector fits tight in the female socket.  Sometimes Twecos get a little loose, you can open them up a bit by driving a screwdriver in the split in the tip.What size cable are you using for kind of current?
Reply:If the only place they get hot is the connections.  It seems your cables are big enough, but the connectors are not, or need a little tweaking.   I clean them up with sandpaper and apply a little silicone grease.   I make sure its a tight fit.  I only go up to 300 amps tops and not much of a duty cycle.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:What David said. Clean tight connections solve a  lot of over heating problems with cable connectors . Dont forget to pull them apart and clean the socket the cable goes in and cut the cable ends back to bright clean copper. I use truck Lite grease to cut down the corrosion in the cable socket connection.
