I bought a new Hobart Stickmate off ebay a couple days ago. I hear stick welders are tough and last. Can you tell me with this one if you think I made an ok choice? Here is a link to it:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=001Thank youWhiteymin
Reply:It says in the auction it's being sold AS IS and NOT tested. It looks damaged and that could lead to other problems. My TIG welder was damaged during shipping and I had it checked out anyway. For $99 it's a decent price compared to new. Hobart is a good name but if it doesn't work, you just bought a $99 metal box.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:From the pictures it looks like it is in good shape. You can do a lot with an AC only welder at that current range. I like to use the Lincoln 7014 rod I get from Lowes for AC. I think a Lincoln rod with work with a Hobart welder.
Reply:I seen it listed and not hardly much time left and looking new at a glance with the manual and all, I tried to snatch it up before It got away. then I went back and read the rest. I know, I got it backwards. Live and learn. I was asking because people talk about how tough and hard to tear up the Hobart stick welders are as are the Lincoln stick welders and thought maybe it won't affect it. What do you think?Whitey
Reply:I would think there will be a good chance it will be OK. You can see by the pictures that it took a good whack, but the simplicity of the machine may work in your favor. I doubt there is anything other than a fan, a transformer, an on/off switch and tap switch to change the current range. These components are normally pretty tuff unless they take a direct hit. Let us know how you make out. |
