i have the wrap but i cant figure it out im trying to make an elbow out of 16" pipe for a new bbq project
Reply:4 things must be known to make a gored elbow:1) Diameter (known)2) Number of degrees3) Number of pieces4) sweep of the elbow, either heel, centerline or throat radius.Give the specifics and we'll work through it.
Reply:ok you already lost me.what i did is i took a piece of 2" pvc pipe and put it in a miter box and cut it at 45 degrees, flip the 2 pieces around and it makes a perfect elbow.thats what i need to know ,how to cut a 16" pipe at 45 degrees to make an elbow thanks
Reply:same way just need a bigger miter box  MOOOORE  POWER  A SPEEDY SQUARE --OR  PROTRACTOR  at a 45
Reply:in laymens terms please
Reply:With what do you plan to cut it...do you have a plasma or with a zip disc ??
Reply:If your pipe is 16" OD it'll help to get some reference points laid out. Try and quarter your pipe lineally with some lines. Pick your line to be the inside and mark your point where the inside of the elbow is to be from the base. The line 180º away will contain the reference point for the final outside of the elbow, and that point will be 16" further out from the base than the inside point. The other two lines along the side can then be your 'halfway' points, both at 8" more than the inside point and/or 8" less than the outside point. Your wrap should touch these reference points give or take a little inaccuracy in  the layout.
Reply:Here's a sketch of what a wrap should look like to make a 45 degree miter on a 16 inch OD pipe. You can make it out of heavy paper or bristol board, like the kids use for school projects. I marked X as the throat height...you'll have to decide what you want this to be. Note it is symmetrical about line number 9. stretch out would be 50 1/4 " for 16" OD.( Divide into 16 equal spaces ) Once you've established the points, draw in a free hand curve...wrap it around the pipe and mark your cut line...cut it...rotate one half of the pipe 180 degrees and then when mated to the other half it should make a 90 degree elbow
Reply:im gonna cut it with a plazma cutter, the wrap i bought for 30 dollars looks nothing like the pictures, imagine explaining this to a child ill upload pics of what i bought and i hope someone can help me thanks for the replys
Reply:Put a chalk line along your pipe, make it about 2ft. long. Draw out the template that Tinman has drawn, line up the middle line (9) along the chalk line, wrap it around and do a chalk line down the edge. What you'll get if you turn it side profile is a 45o elbow. Or try this, it's exactly the same thing but the printer will do it for you.http://www.harderwoods.com/pipetempl...&Submit=SubmitClive
Reply:Tinbasheers method is more commenly called parrallel line developement.  Often used when a reusable wrap may be needed.  A quick one off technique is to.....circle and devide your piece into 4 quarters (mark the diameter on a wrap of emory paper,  fold twice and crease , rewrap the pipe and mark off at the creases)....use an angle iron to measure back top and bottom in opposite directions....because you are making a 45 degree joint the distance will be 1/2 the o.d. which I believe will equal an even 8"....now the magic part, you'll need an extra pair of hands, hold your wrap-around as shown on your circumference line quarter marks so it gently meets up with the 8" mark on top, use your third and forth hand to steady wrap and mark cut line, repeat in opposite direction on bottom.
