Yesterday i was puting the final touches on my anphibious water craft that took my 2 months to design and i was so ecited i road 1 mile to the a local utah river and drove right in. All was well for the first couple of yards when and started to have engine troubles and my enigne stoped and i could not steer into a bridge support colum and smash my craft to chuncks, luckly i was save by out hanging  rebar and it hooked my coat and left me hanging as i wached my beauty colide with concreat and be dismembered. A towns man saw the whole event and called 911. I was greatful, but now i have a $100,000 fine for using an unregistered water craft in a local river and i have to go to court in a week.i did suffer injurey while it happened i got laserated by a loose coil of barb wire it runs acrost my right sholder down to my left thigh. now im in the hospital and i should be out in three days.     MY Shop Gear::1: a rock and string2: glass bottle and gas3: old remote and batteries4: metal taped together5: ripped shoe6: smash anphibious water craft
Reply:damn bro, that sucks big time. Glad you're ok tho. That's a huge fine!

Reply:Now what!    Can't a guy get a little sleep around here?  Laserated?  I'll show you what a laceration looks like!  Scrapster, Just kidding.   You'll be okay. Rest up. You're the cat that welds like a 50 year-old right?  Well if the 100G fine is right, you're gonna have to start welding like four 50 year-olds!  Seriously, 100K, that's impossible. Cousin Joe wasn't fined that much when he had that little mishap with the Valdez! Don't even worry about it. It's just an accusation; you haven't been fined yet. Have that postponed, you're in no condition to deal with that petty trumped-up charge right now.Hey... Any nurses into dragons around there?
Reply:Sorry to hear about your mishap.  Got pics???David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Scrapster,Tell them all to kiss your a$$ - you are only 15

Reply:Sounds far fetched to me. First, they don't fine minors. Secondly, since when are bridge barriers surrounded by barbed wire? Thirdly, if it only took you 2 months to design an amphibious water craft, it was deemed to fail. Fourth, you designed a water vehicle that does NOT steer when the motor cuts out?  Sounds like Murphy's Law has a special spot for you!John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Don't give "them" any ideas. That would be about the size of it; Take a chicken-scratch, nothing incident, and waste a ton of money blowing it all out of proportion.

Reply:Not that I don't have sympathy for someone who is in pain and has suffered a $$$ loss, but I don't quite see this as 'Extemly Bad News' to me.Perhaps to you, but not to 'all'.It seems fitting that this was a watercraft incident.  There's something 'fishy' about it.

Reply:Ten bucks says; the "Dragon Lady" is nursing him back to health.  Any takers?
Reply:People swamp boats into bridge columns and what-not all the time. Regular event. No water craft with an engine has steering when the engine is cut. There's gotta be 'more to the story'.

It's a beautiful thing, even drifting, a rudder will help you steer...will it not? Maybe we should stop putting rudders on boats, ships, water craft all together if they don't help? Reply:scapster... since no one else will come out and say it flat out to your face... you're a stupid... that story seems so far fetched that it doesn't even make sense. 100,000 bucks? bull. dragon for a girl? bull. so us a picture and maybe people will stop ragging on you so bad. one more thing... don't be stupid and tell everyone about your idiocy. sure, i've done it, but don't do it anymore. Later,Andy
Reply:A rudder doesn't help if the vessel isn't under power of some sort, i.e., moving faster than the water is moving going down stream.  You can spin the boat with one but you can't effectively steer.  You are just changing which side will smack the bridge.Scrapster, if what you have said is true, I would think the next step would be to get a lawyer and forget about the rudder.Last edited by smithboy; 12-09-2007 at 05:02 PM.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.

I don't care if he's got a rudder the size of your ego, if he's drifting down the river its not going to turn him. I've spent 20 years working on the water. I don't really need to be smart assed by an internet expert.
Reply:John, the only way a rudder has any effect is if it has force on it. He either needs to be moving faster or slower than the water. If he's drifting there's no force, he's moving at the same pace as the water. A barely noticable change in direction would be all he would get.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT

Reply:Wow,A first time watercraft test in December in Utah?  How cold was that water?  Maybe 40 degrees?  Did the State Parks and Recreation pick you up? Did you not read 73-18-15.2. (Minors under 16 not permitted to operated powered watercraft, unless accompanied by a person who is 18) of Utah Boating Law.  And finally, who's computer are you using from your hospital bed?  I would be more worried about healing and obtaining competent legal counsel that can actually spell and construct a sentence, than logging in here at the WW.  That is, if you are in the dilemma you previously described.good luck, cricmanLast edited by cricman; 12-09-2007 at 05:37 PM.
