Newbie question: do I need some sort of insulation between my workpiece and my worktable? I'm just starting out with MIG welding and while doing some practice welds the thought occurred to me that I've got my ground clamp on the workpiece, which is lying directly on my table. The table is a square of 2mm mild steel bolted to the top of a grinder stand. My thought process is this: when the trigger's pulled, is there concern that the workpiece will arc to the table top? And should insulation be needed, what sort of material is recommended? Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away. And you have their shoes.Roland
Reply:If the workpiece is grounded, it won't arc to the table. If you ground the table and set the workpiece on it, just make sure enough of the workpiece is touching the table surface to prevent arc marks. |
