Do I need to be standing on something

Another newbie question. I was reading through one of Miller's safety documents I'd found a link to here on WeldingWeb. In it there was a series of recommendations on material you should be standing/kneeling on, like an insulating mat or sheet of plywood. It doesn't really state it, but I'm guessing this is in cases where the weldor is working on a large object and is actually standing *on top* of it while working. Still, I thought I'd put the question out there: do I need to be standing on anything in particular? I'm working in my home shop. The floor is swept concrete, I'm wearing Dakota steel-toe boots and my worktable is a metal grinder stand with a piece of 2mm mild steel bolted on top. (Well, that's my table for now until I have a little more dirt under my fingernails. Then I plan on making something a little more permanent...)Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away. Reply:I stand on whatever is underneeth me..But seriously..The only thing to watch out for is hot metal that you stand on..Plywood will catch fire..Concrete does not..And don't use a steel chair while Tigging.. You will "zap" your a$$ especially if its wet.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I have never had a problem when welding. I often stand on my large projects, and I am sure all the stick welders like Tozzi and Hammack are standing inside their big projects. Like Zap said... welding wet is not a good idea.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Im inside and on top of stuff everyday. Like it was metioned before, making sure your not on something hot is my biggest concern
