Last night I was playing around with a flux core nozzle I picked up, and it definitely made it easier to see the puddle, and minimize stick out. Does anyone know where I can get a nozzle made of something besides hard plastic (Ceramic perhaps), because the one I have is already starting to melt, and man does it stink!
Reply:If it is self shielded wire, why do you need a nozzle.  JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:Is that one tweco?  Miller makes one for their M10 gun that is slighty different material. It still burns up slowly. If tweco fits yours, the miller won't. I don't believe there's another material out there.

Reply:Do you think machinable ceramic would work? McMaster Carr sells it in small quantities, and I could turn it to shape on the lathe.
Reply:For the approx $8 for the Lincoln black plastic nozzle, I just regard it as a replaceable item.  When it melts really badly, replace it.Oh, and if you are noticing the smell of the plastic, you are probably also breathing in the flux fumes.    And yes, the plastic nozzle does protect the gas diffuser and the torch threads from getting crudded up.
Reply:I belive if you do not have a gas shield on and you catch the contact tip on the work you can blow the diodes on the main rectifier.
Reply:i have that same tip on my LE 100HD... never had a problem with it melting, even on the highest setting (D=~18V & 88 Amps) and used it long enough to trip the duty cycle. i do not doubt your welding abilities or style/technique, but i am wondering if you are using the correct tool for the job here. lik eit has been mentioned before, it is a simple piece, made cheap enough to be replaceable and disposable... i'd just get another one... that size fites great into 3/4"x9 Expanded metal when not in use... i know that's probably not the best thing for the gun, but when you need to put the stinger somewhere, that nozzle won't slip or fall out of the expanded. mine is a little scuffed up from doing that, but it works.Later,Andy

Reply:As ACZELLER stated at the highest setting and welding to full duty cycle through 2 10# rolls and 5 or 6 2# rolls of wire my tip/nozzle tip cover what ever you may call it, has no signs what so ever of melting. If I had to make a guess I'd say to much amp draw causing excessive heat build up in the tip. Due to to small wire size from breaker to welder, or extension cord to small or spliced points in extension cord, Just a thought.Miller Thunderbolt 225Millermatic 130 XPLincoln HD 100 Forney C-5bt Arc welderPlasma Cutter Gianteach Cut40ACent Machinery Bandsaw Cent Machinery 16Speed Drill PressChicago Electric 130amp tig/90 ArcHobart 190 Mig spoolgun ready
