my harbor freight helmet is starting to go so i was thinking about a hobart one? anyone got one. it will be used for home use.
Reply:I bought the cheapest AD hobart hood at TSC and it's been great for me. Been dropped, banged around and no problems. It has adjustable sensitivity, delay time and tint. I've never used any of the high dollar hoods, but the Hobart is MUCH better than the HF one that I used in the past and the single shade, manual ones from any company don't even compare if you ask me.Contact me for any metal polishing needs you may have, my avatar is a pic of a standard, painted fire axe that I ground, sanded polished and buffed to a mirror finish.
Reply:I've got the same one, works really well. Just have to remember to turn it on before you start welding. I think there's a post about them in the hobart section..... If I remember correctly the main downside is there isn't a way to put it on a hardhat.HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X
Reply:idk if i would suggest hobart for all types of welding though ive used them before for stick and mig and they work properly but if u plan on duing any tig welding u may want to look elsewhere. hobart hoods do not come with a good lo-amp pickup on them. this lo-amp rating is a number used to describe the weakest amp that a helmet will operate at. the best hobart hood is rated at 50 whereas miller's xli is rated at 20. just be aware because ive seen people spend $150 on a auto-darkening helmet thats not worth a sh$t i reccomend a miller xliits lightwieght ive left mine out in the rain, stepped on it sat on it dropped it 30 feet and melted it and it still works perfect, ur helmet as a welder is one of the most important investments you will make Last edited by noobiex; 12-31-2007 at 05:53 PM. |
