newbie welder

Hi,just jioned the forum as I am now attempting to do some welding on my 73 jeep.If you can't get the grinder in there to clean up the metal is there a solvent which may work?Also. when I attach the grounding clamp I'm assuming it should be as near the spot I'm welding and it should have a good bite into the metal.  I didn't want to get a shock when I'm under the jeep.I'm using a 110 MIG with the flux wire (thats what I'll call it)Any cautionary or helpful hints appreciated.
Reply:Well there's always Jasco Paint Remover sold at hardware stores. After that I would take a spray bottle w/ water and try to remove the adhesive/remover itself. The only problem would be if you cant get a grinder in there the stuff 'sheets' off but is very sticky...It could be more trouble than it's worth.Other than that a little sandpaper on your fingers may work or even a small dremel moto tool type thing?
