hello every one i have been welding for 16 yrs on ornamental iron and most every thing else but not much on pipe i am wanting to shif gears and get certified for pipe welding does any one have any advice on things i need to preactice or do so that i can become good enough for my certs any advice would be great ... thanks goose
Reply:Hey goose,Pipewelding is its' own world as are structural, aerospace, construction & any other welding genre. Each has their own parameters regarding material, methods, & testing specs, ie; X-ray, UT, RT, etc.. You would best get some formal instruction or hook-up with a pipewelder to get the "feel" of welding pipe. There are many grades, thicknesses, & procedures for pipe and each must be learned to be proficient. There are many on this site & other sites such as the AWS site than can enlighten you. It is a very lucrative occupation and the demand grows daily for excellent & quality welders. Also, there is the factor of travel one must consider if you have a family & the considerations of being away from home for extended periods. Just some "food for thought"..... Reply:If you want to weld pipe you will want to get your 6g cert.. just set it up at a 45 and root,hot pass, and cap...if you want to pipeline then you need to perform to api 1104..that can be a real bitch to pass...call me if you want anymore info...

Reply:yorkie i have conciderd the traval part but the nice thing for me as of now i live here in wy and in my town we are haveing quite the pipeline boom going on so that makes it nice but as for the rest i thank you for your advice and will look in to that thanks
