What is the stuff that auto body shops use on sheet metal to absorb heat as they weld? I used it when rebuilding a VW bug with my son. I remember it as coming in a gallon can and being moist like wet paste. What's it made of and can someone make something like it?Someone on another forum wants to find something to keep a soldered joint from coming apart as they solder another joint. I thought this might do the trick. Gil
Reply:While I can't answer the question completely... anything that will sink the heat will help with that soldered joint. Wet rag, needle nose pliers, something to that effect.
Reply:What usually works for me is to clamp down the joint i don't want coming loose and just soldering the next joint i need done. The heat wicking gels are sold in Ace hardware stores.
Reply:I have some it's Crown-Purple heat eater part#XYHEAT-2 found it at LWS. Not sure what it is made of or how to make it. It's reusable.Doug |
