I'm just curious if it is still used much and if anyone has any experience doing repairs on it. It is used in applications where there is a corrosive environment. I used to have to do repairs and build-up on this stuff and didn't enjoy it at all.
Reply:"ampco" aluminum bronze is used on many of the wearing surfaces on mandrel tube bending tooling. It's not cheap, either! I've probably got over 200lbs of it throughout the tooling for my bender.
Reply:i repair nibral props and yes the rod is expensive, i pay $21 a lb for the rodbut it welds real nice
Reply:It is used for fluid ends on postive displacement pumps and valve and check bodies in corrosive invironments in the oil field. Cracked and washed out fluid ends are difficult to repair or were unless some new techniques have been developed. Valve and check bodies are not so hard. I see the rod hasn't gotten any cheaper.
Reply:I have used it for wear bushings in certain equipment, but I've never welded the stuff before.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
