I have a question. I am in the market to buy a tig welder soon, to weld aluminum checkerplate boxes and stuff. on ebay they have some good prices on some welders that are DC only with Pluse. I havent had much to do with setting up tig, i can weld aluminum with AC, once had the welder on DC- for a moment but i didnt like it. Anyway my question is, Can aluminum be welded nice with DC on pulse mode? i would like to see some pics of the result. Another reason i would like to get a Tig machine is cause some of them can be used as plasma and stick too. I would like a new stick machine and i want to be able to weld alumium at home too. plasma would be the ultimate.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:I wouldn't do DC welding of aluminum for anything under 1/8". It does best on fillets and lap joints. Open butt welds or welding up gaps with it is pretty difficult.
Reply:I experimented with dc tig on aluminum and didnt have any success with it. AC is much much better!MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Hey, good to know stuff. maybe i can get a deal on a machine through work. I can buy scrap aluminum for 50 cents a pound, and they have a bunch of pieces of checkerplate aluminum there 32 1/2 inches wide and 16 feet long i have my eye on, and yes that is scrap to them!Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up. |
