Grinding off welds

Is it fastest to just grind them with an angel grinder? I plan on grinding them off and then reusing the metal.Is this possible?This is probably a stupid question. I am sorry.

Reply:you betcha its possible. most of the things i built when doing saw mill maintaince were out of scraps, thats all we had most of the time. for the big honking welds you can take them down with a cutting torch then finish with the grinder, its quick and easy (as a suggestion). as for quality and looks of the project, it depends on how much pride you take in it all. recyclers do it over and over.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.

Reply:I take all kinds of stuff apart with a grinder. I sometimes use a cutting disk sometimes a grinder is better. Reply:just dont take off so much of the base metal when you grind or cut off the welds. Granted if its a recycle part and its been cut and welded several times in the same area then you will have a larger HAZ but typically people who recycle metal dont really care much about that effecting the base metal. It also depends on how big the part is and how much room/metal you have to work with ...
