Anyone here thaw frozen pipes with their welding machines ever. --Gol'
Reply:Read it could be done in the manual for my Lincoln 300D. Also read that it voids the warranty on the welder.I've seen induction heating equipment made by Miller that would probably do the trick. It was able to heat a ~24" diameter pipe section to 300°F in less than 60 seconds.
Reply:I did once quite a few years ago... it worked just fine. Didn't know about it voiding warranty at the time though. The Welder Shop has great deals and reviews on Hobart, Miller and Lincoln Welders.
Reply:I did it several times back when the world was young. It wasn't my machine, it belonged to the company I worked for and they sent me to do each job. So I did it. Lincoln used to offer a fuse kit for the SA 200 for this though I didn't have one when I thawed the pipes. The new machines that are 100% duty cycle like the Ranger 250 should have no problem doing this.
Reply:there just aren't that many copper or galvanized water pipes used these days--all plastic which wont do anything with your welder.
