let's just say that you found some cash... a LOT of cash... what WELDING toys would you get. i know i'd want everyhting on earth. seriously tho... if you could get a hand full of machines (cost does not matter), what woudl you get? One of each of the following:StickMIGTIGO/APlasma CutterCNC (only one machine that was CNC... not one mill, one lathe, etc... ONE MACHINE)Misc. machines/toolsI guess what i'm really trying to find is the Ferrari or Rolls Royce of Welding Equipment... when i see Miller, ESAB, Hobart, and LE, i think good, strong, dependable machines... what about just kick-@$$ machines that have a ton of bells and whistles? Pitting Miller & LE against each other is like deciding which car MFR is better... Ford, Dodge, or Chevy. we all have our opinions, so lets hear 'em!just curious... it'll probably be moved to the "Off Topic" page, but i figured it was more suitable to be placed here since it still has to do with welding materials.Later,Andy

Reply:I would like a diesel powered welder instead of gas, but they cost 2 to 3 times the gas machines do.  so......I want a Advanced panel for my invertec V350 pro.  It will do pulsed spray Mig.DavidI will have the panel in Jan 08. Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Lets see...  A kick *** shop with an overhead crane and heated floors.Miller puts out some nice inverters that do just about anything (MIG, TIG, STICK, whatever), a lathe (I'm not so big on CNC since I've never used one), A good steel fab table, a brake, a shear, plasma cutter, portable lincoln (they put out a nice diesel, and there is nothing better to weld with than generated DC) mounted on a F-450, etc, etc, etc.

Reply:HAAS does make some sweet stuff but expect to pay $30,000 for their "tiny" 14" max. cut lathe up to $155,000 for their 35" max. cut lathe. Reply:No cash limit?I would buy a laser pointer and a bullhorn and a tape recorder-then hire several of the best available professional welders and put them to work building a self-designed sports car using their own tools.I would record all the comments made about the jerk with the bullhorn and the half-fast car then write a book about it. snicker

Reply:I need a Bridgeport with tooling, Zap's big Hendy lathe, Niagra press brake and shear, a 4' minimum set of slip rolls, Hossfeld bender with all the dies, Miller Dynasty 300 for the shop, Airvantage Lincoln for the new Peterbuilt service truck, BOA-308 bore welder, and boring bar, all the tools I already have, and 100 acres in the woods with a giant building.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:Lincoln has a big inverter that does it all. My miller does it all except ac tig. And does it all very well too. The Lincoln loses no power or duty cycle from 3 phase to 1 phase unlike my miller. One unit that does it all takes up a lot less shop space freeing up room for more toys.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.

Reply:I guess if I could have any piece of welding equipment that I could put to use right now that I dont already have, it would be an XMT 350MPa with a Suitcase RC-8 (and a WC-24 to use with my Spoolmatic) to keep on the truck for steel and aluminum pulse-mig and a Thermal Arc 300 ACDC tig to replace the TA185 in the garage so I could keep the 185 on the truck for ac/dc tig.  I'd like to keep a Hypertherm Powermax 30 (or Spectrum 375X) plasma cutter on the truck too.I would like to have a diesel welder, but the truck is already so heavy that I would need a bigger truck to hold up much heavier a welder than what I have on it now!  A propane-powered Trailblazer 302 would be a nice non-gasoline welding machine that I could carry on my truck as-is.   A Pipe Pro 304 would be super nice, but I would need a 450-class truck to carry it.   I really like the new 4500/5500 chassis-cabs Dodge added to their truck line recently.  Finally, a Cummins diesel in a larger 4wd truck than a 3500 dually!As for shop equipment, the list could go on forever, but then the first item would have to be a bigger shop on some acreage to be able to keep it all in.  I would like to have a 14" steel-cutting miter saw for use with a toothed dry-cut blade (low rpm, high torque motor).  I ordered an Evolution 10" steel-cutting compound-slide miter saw, as that's the closest I have found to what I want that doesn't cost several thousand dollars and take up a ton of space in the shop, but it won't be available untill summer.Other than that, an unlimited, free supply of Corona and a crew of Hooters girls to serve it would taste just great about now!
