Mig & Lead Free Lead

Hi Guys  I've been having one hell've time mig welding (running beads all the way thru)So I spot weld here and spot weld there on my patch piece. And before I know it i'm BLOWING=THRU the patch piece So, here's what I've been doin' to AVOID all my burn thrus.I first tac weld the sheet metal patch piece in place. Avoiding the area from getting 2 HOT !Once cooled I go in with this LEAD FREE LEAD BODY SOLDER. Great stuff. No LEAD at all in this stuff. I forgot the percentages of the COOPER & TIN that in it. And it hold an unbeleivable 9,000 psi. Can't beat that.Then of course I tin the area and go in the SEAL IT.That what I've been doing so far. Have any you guys got a better way to avoid those darn burn thrus ?Thanks GuysGOD BLESSSCHOONER

Reply:A suitable piece of copper behind the joint will do wonders as both a heat sink and preventing the molten pool from going anywhere.  Molten steel will not stick to copper and it leaves a perfectly smooth backside even where you would have had a burnthrough because you had too much heat or weren't travelling fast enough.
