I see you guys' cadillac welding trailers and love them, but, I want to go in a different direction. I got tired of my 305G hogging up my truck and bought a small Lincoln trailer for my machine. Reason being that I can uncouple the trailer from the truck and wheel it into tight places, or into buildings....That said, my question is: How safe would it be to mount my bottles near the rear of the machine (where the very warm exhaust air exits...not the actual exhaust). I know that Acetylene bottles shouldn't be stored in a very hot environment. Any suggestions or experience? I know that in the hot Mohave Desert while running my machine, the back glass of my truck (rear of machine was approx 2' from glass) got pretty warm to the touch....whaddya think? Ideas?Yeah, yeah, I know you are a weldor too. But, are you a good one?
Reply:You've got a concern about the temperature, so don't do it.If you really have no other placement options for the cylinder(s), I'd probably put as much distance as possible between the machine and the cylinder(s) and put a sheet metal shield/baffle to direct the hot air around/away from the cylinder(s) instead of having the hot air hitting the cylinder(s).
Reply:Any idea how hot it gets there? Temps under 150F should not be a problem. I forget how hot an alum bottle can get before it's considered no good but its well over 150F. Steel cyl can take more heat. You may have issues with the gas expanding and going to high in pressure, but that really depends on how hot it might get. I have seen full scuba tanks (3000psi) blow burst disks from being left in a hot car in the summer, so heat is definitely something to keep an eye on. It's rare but can happen under the right circumstances. As suggested a shield of some sort would help to keep the hot/warm air from blowing directly on the bottles and keep them cooler.
Reply:Thanks for the input guys....Moonrise, you're right. concern=no go. Gets too dang hot here in the first place and to add hot air to the problem is no good. Summertime temps in this god forsaken dump are 120+....KennyYeah, yeah, I know you are a weldor too. But, are you a good one?
