I have purchased a lincoln mig 180t & would like to know when looking at settings on door why is every other line setting black or white.another words 1 black line with settings & 1 white line with settings & so on.trying to learn how to mig weld & flux core weld & so far im not having to good of luck.can't seem to get the settings right on wire speed or amps. amps on this welder is A through E  & wire speed 1 through 7  begining to wish i had just sayed with the stick welder.thanks for any help
Reply:First thing to do is peel that sticker off and throw it in the trash. Next step is to get a couple pieces of scrap and start trying different settings.If you know the basics behind welding (you said you have exp. with stick) then start at a decent voltage setting for the thickness of material you are trying to weld and vary the wire speed until you get a solid "sizzle" while welding.  Everybody runs differently. The "in door guide" can be a decent place to start or it can throw you way off. A lot depends on your individual hand technique and speed at which you move the gun.If you get a lot of popping and spitting while trying to weld, turn the wire speed DOWN. If you get an arc but it feels and looks as if the wire isn't going anywhere, turn the wire speed UP.HTH- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:The black and white lines are just to help you stay on the right line all the way across. It is just a starting place. On the weldpak 155 my partner has the difference between C and E on wire speed is about 3 to 4. It will feed a lot more wire than it can burn. It has taken me two years but I finally got him to quit looking at that chart and look at what the puddle is doing. His welding with it has improved dramatically. Do what Paul says and once you hit the right spot you will wonder why it gave you so many fits. Once you have it figured out you will love it.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
