I have a westinghouse 500amp cc ac-dc powersupply. I would like to tigweld with it do i need a hf box or can i scratch start with it. also do you need to have an hf box to weld aluminum or just switch to ac and scratch start. I have the tig torch regulator and argon. also on the tig torch would it be dc- or dc+. I have done lots of stick welding and some mig but never atempeted tig so any advice would be apreciated thanks.
Reply:You would need continuous HF to allow the AC arc to operate. You can scratch start on DC without HF. In DC TIG the electrode is negative.Last edited by pulser; 07-28-2008 at 07:06 PM.

Both Lincoln and Miller have websites with an abundance of good information on this as wellas most anything else you can come up with. They can even tell you how to weld aluminum with dc tig.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
