Hey guys, I recently bought a jackson-lite big lens shield. I used a similar shield for years but recently cracked it. I have used the new shield a few days and I am suffering from mild flash. I also just started using reading glasses, 1.5, under shield,(aging sucks!). With a very brite mag-lite I inspected the lens and found a very small leak on the left side of lens. The shield has a groved gasket in which the clear lens was fitted, the filter lens was placed on inside side of gasket and the wire clip held all in place. This configeration did not appear correct to me? Is the shield the problem and\or can the magnification of the reading glasses cause eye irritation? Also, the OE lens produces an orange view, but is not a "gold lens". Any advice is appreciated.Miller TrailBlazer 251Miller HF-250-1Miller MaxStar 150 STLHyperTherm PowerMax 380 plasmaLincoln PowerMig 180Millermatic 252Miller Diversion 180
Reply:Well I can't answer your question directly about the Jackson hood, But I wear 3.00 glasses under my H.F. auto darkening hood with no problems what so ever. So you may be correct about the small leak on the left side being the culprit. Take it back and let the warranty fix the hood, or replace it what ever Jackson decides.Miller Thunderbolt 225Millermatic 130 XPLincoln HD 100 Forney C-5bt Arc welderPlasma Cutter Gianteach Cut40ACent Machinery Bandsaw Cent Machinery 16Speed Drill PressChicago Electric 130amp tig/90 ArcHobart 190 Mig spoolgun ready
Reply:If visible light can get through the burning kind can as well. If I remember correctly my Shadow came with the cover lens in the gasket and the filter plate behind it. I used to have a lot of trouble with burned eyes but had to start wearing glasses a bit over 20 years ago. from the first pair I have had UV coating applied to the lenses with the result being burned eyes 2 times since. Neither were the fault of the hood or the glasses. I would take the hood back myself. They do make gaskets for them though I haven't a clue where you would get them.

Reply:Any light leaks will cause you problems. Take it back if it's new. If it happens on an older helmet fix it with a little black silicone.
Reply:What shade # is the filter? My helmet has a clear protective lens on outside, backed by the filter lens, and another clear lense behind that.  The glass filter lens is sandwiched between the 2 clear plastic lenses.  If the glass breaks, the clear lense nearest my eyes will theoretically keep the pieces from hittin' me in the face.I'm not sure how they build the larger shields.  Mine's a 2x4 ."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I think I fixed it! I reversed the gasket, it having different contact config. on each side, and added a clear lens on back of filter lens to increase pressure on gasket face.Miller TrailBlazer 251Miller HF-250-1Miller MaxStar 150 STLHyperTherm PowerMax 380 plasmaLincoln PowerMig 180Millermatic 252Miller Diversion 180
