I've seen the idea tossed around around several different forums but I never did find anyone that completed it.  Is it possible to add a wire feeder to a TIG power source and use it as a MIG unit?  I did read about the differences of constant current vs. constant voltage.  I'm assuming that this may not be possible or I'd probably have seen it done.  After selling my Hobart MIG to buy a Dynasty 200dx I'm realizing the short comings of only having a TIG.  Not always practical and it would be great to find a way to use it as a MIG unit without investing in a Miller 212 or 252 along side it.
Reply:It won't work.  You could use a voltage sensing wire feeder and run flux cored on a constant current machine, but for the same money you could buy a mig machine which would be better all around.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Some have talked about the Ready Welder spoolgun as maybe being able to do this.  I couldn't guess as to how well it might work, but you might want to search it.
Reply:I am familiar with the Ready Welder since it can be hooked up to many different power sources.  Seems like a lot of mixed answers come about on this subject.  I need to do some more researching.  Appreciate the replies.
Reply:Ready Welder has a unit that will work.Give them a call.
Reply:tmorgan4,  check post #7 here:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...nstant+currentWC-3 here:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=027But you'd have to find a Spoolmatic 2 to go with it as that's the only spool gun that will work with the WC-3 which was designed to work with CC and CV power supplies.  As Larry (weldersales) points out, you can't run in HF mode or it'll damage the PCB.A possible option if the prices are right.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Here's another option.  Same applies.http://cgi.ebay.com/Miller-WC-115-A-...d=p3286.c0.m14I suggest you double check with Larry to be sure.Last edited by duaneb55; 10-15-2008 at 11:57 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I had looked into using the LN-25 off my Miller Syncorwave but was told tig machines are wired different and could cause damage to the tig functions. Don't know, anybody else know more about this. I arc weld with it , I cant see how much different the mig would be. It circuits pretty much the same way?"Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:Duaneb55 - thanks for all the information!  I should email the guy about the WC-3 since it didn't sell.  I would like to confirm that it isn't going to harm the Dynasty as I'd be a little bent out of shape if I ruined it by trying to cheap my way out.  Then I'd get to buy 2 new welders. If I can make this work I'm going to give it a try.  If it simply won't work and could potentially burn up my Dynasty I guess I better buy a real MIG.  Thanks again.
Reply:What is wrong with the stick function on your DX.
Reply:Maybe this will help.I have an LN-25 with a CC/CV switch inside.  On CV, the welder controls the voltage keeping it constant.  On CC, the wire feeder tries to keep the voltage constant by changing the wire speed.  It don't work very well at all especially when you get down low.  Think about it, a mechanical thing trying to respond to voltage changes verses an electronic thing keeping the voltage constant.I don't know about the other options listed, I would be sure to ask miller.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
