Hello all, I recently bought an inverter type welder, using a 3.2 rod it went down lovely but the manual is crap to say the least (it is made by COBEL apparently)There are two dials for Amperage and two dials for 'pulse?', having owned a 180amp AC welder for 16 years I simply set the amperage and started welding, why do they have 2 amperage controls and what are these pulse dials all about?Sorry for the newbie questions but these inverters although brilliant seem more complicated to setup, I also got a TIG welding attachment with 4 tungstens, would it be good enough to use with my MIG bottle (95% Argon 5% CO2) ?Thanks
Reply:You need pure argon to tig. Your gas is oxidizing, or a reactive gas.I don't know about the knobs, do you have a picture?Welcome DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:This is the front of the welder....I hope it makes some sense Attached Images
Reply:Left knob is background pulse. It only works if pulse is on.Bottom left knob is frequency for the back ground current. From 1/2 second to 3 1/2 seconds. *Bottom right is welding current,Switch over the Ce symbol is stick, DC tig, or pulse DC tig.Top right is time of foreground or welding current 1/2 second to 3 1/2 second. * * I think....DavidReal world weldin. Reply:Many thanks, it makes better sense now. What is the last one 'time of foreground' is this also something to do with tig?
Reply:NO CO2, Argon only
Reply:I think what David was trying to say with "time of foreground" was that is the time that the pulse will stay at the "Main" current level. You set the "Base" current to the background current, typically 60% of the "Main" current, and generally you will set the time at base current to 60 percent of the time you are at "Main" current.Regards, KbnitI r 2 a perfessional
Reply:Right, well until I get hold of an Argon cylinder it will mainly be used for general welding work; making car ramps, axle stands etc.I have a MIG welder too and although it welds lovely I find that the stick bites in more, I used to make those huge skips that roll on and off the wagon, all was MIG welded but I still think mastering the stick is more of a challenge.
