and where does it come from?
Reply:Deep sea mines, the rock is dredged from up to 35 miles down. Once on the ship it is processed in to gas via sublimation. Then in to the world wide network of pipelines where it is used to push  petroleum products.

Reply:Sorry Rojo but I gatta. Argon is expelled from your lungs after breathing helium to make you talk funny at parties.
Reply:my farts have argon in them if you want to smell em !

Reply:Thank you Tensaiteki for the real answer to Nick Z's question.
Reply:oh so i gess its not from deep sea mines?

Reply:hey guys one more question... What are  some of argons NON welding uses?FB.. plz do not respond haha
Reply:Pushing poo from welders back sides. Used any where a inert non reactive atmosphere is needed. In between the panes of glass in an insulated window.

Reply:"neon" lighting. argon emits a baby blue light, krypton a  blueish white, Neon a red, Helium a pink, and Xenon a purple light in their refined and pure forms when exposed to ionization voltages (about 12KVac).. and yes.. i was very, very bored.   http://kawispeed.com/ -moderator and tech deluxewww.myspace.com/trickortrack -cuz i have no life
Reply:Negative.  Krypton is green I saw it on superman.

Reply:There is also a map on the back...invisible though......35 miles...that is over 184,000 feet. The average depth is only 12,000 feet....35 miles...You need a shade 5 filter to read the map on the back by the way, gold color over one eye, green color over the other.Last edited by tanglediver; 12-04-2008 at 12:34 AM.City of L.A. Reply:When Argon passes through a high energy radio frequency coil it produces a plasma, 4th state of matter. It is the heart of an inductively coupled plasma spectrometer. It burns samples at about 8,000 - 10,000 deg K and the light spectra given off is analyzed to determine the elements present. We have a Varian ICP-OES in our lab, it is a pretty cool instrument.
Reply:Ummm Donald,UV light striking OXYGEN can make ozone.Oxygen is O2, ozone is O3.Argon is Ar, and will -stay- as argon pretty much no matter what.  Transmutation and esoteric particle physics notwithstanding.  Argon is used in gas-discharge lighting (aka 'neon' lights) as already mentioned. It is used for inert-gas shielding, welding or otherwise. It is used for some insulating glass windows, to cut down on thermal transmission.Plasma doesn't 'burn'  (burn as in rapidy oxidize).  Plasma -IS- the "forth state of matter", an electrically conductive gaseous state.  Adding energy to the plasma can make it HOT, which is part of the way a plasma cutter can 'cut' (by being so hot that it rapidly melts the 'subject').  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
