Hello, I'm going to be welding some chromoly tubing and am trying to locate some ER70-2 mig spools but I'm havng a hard time. The only sites that I can find don't list the price and want you to call to order (and get the price). Can anyone point me in the right direction to buy a spool? Thanks.
Reply:You probably don't won't a 70-S2 wire. A 80S-2 wire matches the strength of the metal and is considered a "low" hydrogen wire. If looking for a good welding wire try a ER70-S6 if you are going to be using gussets and braces.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:I already concidered 80s-2, its too brittle and hard of a filler for my use. I'm building a bicycle frame. That's why I'm turning to the 70 wire. I've also heard that 70s-2 is a better filler vs the -6 for chromoly.
Reply:I dunno if its better for chromally or not, but I have an almost new 44lb spool of .035 ER70S-2 that I have no use for. It doesn't weld for me. for sale cheap!David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:We exclusively use ER70S-2 on our 4130 Formula and Baja framesWe sometimes use 4130 filler also, but we only use that on the parts that are going to be heat treatedMechanical Engineer

Reply:The largest spool I can fit is an 11lb.
Reply:Hate to tell you this, if your wantinga ductile weld.....your barking up the wrong tree using a Mig. Unless you plan some form of post weld treatment.

Reply:Originally Posted by EngloidI don't think that's true. The -6 has a higher silicone content, and will help to get a cleaner weld.Personally, I don't even buy any -2 anymore.
