I'm using flux core wire right now. When I was first learning I took the shroud off to make it easier to see the puddle. I figured, why not... I'm not using gas so I don't need the shroud. recently I put it back on mostly so I don't lose it. Funny thing is... I seem to be able to lay a better bead with the shroud on even though I'm not using gas. Is there anything behind this or am I just crazy?
Reply:Yup, yer definitely crazyInteresting thought. I wonder if the gas thingy maybe holds some of the shielding gas generated by the flux core. Or maybe you can see better with the shield on. Never thought about it.I use flux core only, and keep my thing in the tool chest. I have one hell of a time seeing around the damn thing unless I increase my stickout. I don't see too good anyhow anymoreHell if it works, why not"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
