Reply:I have had a Diversion since October. It suits my hobby needs perfectly. I've found that it welds aluminum quite well, but keep in mind that I am the opposite of an expert!
Reply:I have never used that machine. How thick aloominum are you planning on welding?DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I used one at miller, great little welder. Its about exactly what a Tig welder should be for a guy wanting to fabricate from about 1/4" and under. Its probably really at home doing 3/16 and under though, but with pre-heating even castings should be doable.

Reply:be careful on how thick of aluminum you want to weld with the diversion. The new weldcaraft torch that is wired in is only good for 100 amps AC and is not interchangeable on that welder. It is also a pretty big ticket torch because the controls are integral to the handle.2 Trailblazer 302's2 HF251-D1'sDynasty 200DXLincoln Powermig 140CHypertherm Powermax 30Airco Torches out the a$$

Reply:I have one and am happy with it. The majority of the aluminum I weld is .125 and it does a fine job for what I need.edited to add that I bought a pedal for it.Last edited by mjb; 02-02-2009 at 08:50 PM.

Reply:Yep,Perfect candidate for a Miller Diversion 165.Doesn't want to expend the effort to download the spec sheet and "read" the machine capabilities.Already has visions of using the machine for material it was never designed to do.Hasn't downloaded or requested a copy of Miller's 2009 catalog. Clearly states that a foot pedal option (RFCS-RJ45 Foot Pedal #300 432) is available.Machine comes with a set-up and operation DVD. That's great. Won't even have to read the owners manual. Also allows unlimited questions on the Miller welding forum. And, the final kicker, the machine comes complete with a book, "Tig Welding for Dummies with content by Miller". With this exhaustive reference, no additional study of the tig process will be required.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
