I wondering about getting sheet metal I went to a metal yard the other day and wanted some like 22 gauge sheet metal they told me the smallest they had was 16 gauge. Is 22 gauge hard to come buy or do i just need to check the other yards in my area.what's the smallest gauge does it come in, and price per square foot if any body has bought any?Thank's guys
Reply:Generally, 16 IS the smallest most steel places stock...It just isn't economical. If you want a smaller gauge, you can go to a place that makes V-crimp roofing. The steel they use is of that gauge or thinner. It is only strong if it is crimped or something. Or you can get it in galvanized flashing. Either way, this is not considered "sheeting". It usually is rolled up on a roll and used for flashing, HVAC or other uses.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Check Home Depot or Lowes. It is crazy expensive, though.

Reply:16 guage here. Anything thinner is considered "tin" and you go to Lowe's, Home Depot, or a "tin" shop to get it. Once in a great while you can find 18 guage black.

Reply:Bought myself some 22 g at Carter lumber, it was meant for flashing, but I used it for making other things, I still have a part of a roll, it came in a roll that was 3' wide by 50' long.#1. Reply:I'll have to check on it for you on Monday! Can't remember right off hand.It is painted white on one side and a really light gray on the other!I have used it to make several small boxes, a deflector and shoot for my metal cutting swing arm saw, a heat shield/pass through for the wood stove for the shop, I had to double wall it for that one, and so on.I might have about 10 or 15 feet left over yet, waiting for the next project that will come along.#1. Reply:I just paid $53 for a 4x10 sheet of 16ga, is that about what it cost other places too? or is it more here?

Reply:Well shoot!I told you wrong!I went out this morning and mic'd it and its actually 26gage!I hadn't tried welding on it, all the things I have used it on so far, I drilled and riveted it together.I will still call Carter, as I do know that they had even thicker stuff there, but I think it was all galvanized stuff, like what the guy's used for making the heat box/exchanger for on my home heating furnace with, but it was in sheets, like 4'x8' I think.#1. Reply:Called Carters! They don't even carry that kind of stuff anymore in stock, it was about 7 or 8 years ago when I bought my stuff! The guy said that he can order stuff, but the thickest he can get now is 24 gage for like making duct work out of, its galvanized and only comes in a 24" wide by 47" long piece! One place you might check with is Pole Barn builders, I know they would have mostly corrugated metal, but they do use some flat metal on sliding doors, but I don't know if its as thick as 22 gage, probably more like a 30 gage!Ken.#1.
