our domestic steel thats produced now-a-days SUCKS. I've worked a lot of goverment "jobs", in witch they require you to use it. Man I ain't seen such poor steel in all my life. We have had to reject whole loads of I-beams for delamination. WHERES THE QUALITY CONTROL GUYS AT???????? Webs of beams off center by more than 3/8"!!!!!!! I know there a "nominal" size but damn...... I see why we're in the shape we are.......... What happened to having some "PRIDE" in your work?????? Please, don't think I'm anti-American, just anti-lazy..........The golden days are OVER!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure how many "small" steel mills are operating here now, but lets get-it- together and make this country the leader in QUALITY steel production like we USED TO BE. I would like to know if any of you fellas had this experience with our domestic steel??????????Don't let that iron in your lungs, turn to lead in your @$$!!!!
Reply:The only thing I know about steel mills is what my grandfather told me. And he retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh in 91 or 92. But when he was working they bought their slabs from Russia and reheated them and rolled them out. And called that made in USA. But then again Wheeling Pitt is now owned by Serveralstal or however you spell it. A Russian company.
Reply:Ironmower,Don't be so sure to blame it on American steel.  There are "grades" of it though.  Sometimes these companies are allowed to subtitute if the price is increased by a certain preset percentage.  I have used quite a bit recently and had no problems.  In fact, it is a special joy to use it when I can get it. It always cuts smoothly, is dimensionally correct, and welds well. Reply:Yup, and prices are still too high. I decided to buy a Chinese (Clarke I think) grinder stand for $30 instead build my own. I could not buy the material for that price. SteveJunkYard Tools .com
