Reply:Everybody has a different definition of the word "buddy."
Reply:Your equipment and consumables and I like you sure, no charge. My stuff, well I'm in business it's $XXX.XX per hour how many do you want.
Reply:Interesting article Skwerly.Sure there are all kinds of  "old buddy" deals, but a true buddy wants to be fair about things. When I feel that some payment is in order, -but I wouldn't care to repeat the deal, or accept payment for it- I'll sometimes say something like: I need to pay a power/heat/insurance/tag/tax/ whatever bill, for $ome amount. I may even pull the bill out to confirm the exact amount. I'll ask the buddy if he could please go to the corner store and pick up a money order for $ome amount, and make it out to the payee, so it could be mailed out today. This makes it clear to the buddy that it costs plenty to keep the doors open, and he did not just do you the great personal favor of stuffing your pocket with mad money.Or - "The cleaning/lawn/errand/oil change/etc. needs to be done, Alfred or I were going to do that today; let's trade, you do that and I'll take care of your favor."Good LuckSkwerly - I have a question. . . Could a gal pick up a little pocket change (you know, to pay a bill or two!) writing short articles like yours?Last edited by denrep; 03-18-2009 at 03:30 PM.
Reply:They're always charged.  Cash, sex, or beer, how they choose to pay is up to them.

Reply:My friends are just that, if they ask for a favor i will gladly do it, even if it's in the middle of the football game, I treat my friends like they treat me, I could ask several friends for $500 bucks at 3 AM and they will deliver. That's the way our circle has always been.....I'm 60 years young.............

Reply:I never charge my real friends, they will repay me somehow, but just some guy down the road is another story.
Reply:I make 'em buy me consumables. I always end up with extra.I really thought I'd need 10lbs.of 7018 to fix the crack in your mower deck...
Reply:I'm probably running behind in payments when it comes to my friends. This thread reminds me 'I need to do more'.
Reply:have to add my two cents worth.buddies are not my biggest problem. I dont mind helping out a good friend. But I often have customers wanting to get my minimum price down by saying , its only 15 minutes of welding! I started telling them ok how about 20 bucks... thats  20 bucks for every 15 minutes I am there! then my hourly sounds a lot better.BTS Welding
