I'm welding 1.5mm galvanised scafolding planks and I've having problems welding - I keep making holes - I'm using 6013 electrodes, 2.5mm at 85amps..I think the electrodes might be too big, I find that I need to weld very fast in order not to burn and make holes, to the point that I can not see what I am doing.Do u think I should use 6013 2mm electrodes- or what else could I do?I would appreciate any tips and advise...Thanks
Reply:DON'T BREATHE THE WHITE SMOKE!That would be my first advice.  If you are grinding off the galv, use lower amps and a smaller rod. If  you could tip it so welding is 60* down hill, it will be easier.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:And if you do inhale the white smoke, drink a large glass of milk when finished for the day. The calcium will absorb a lot of the zinc.                            MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Thanks for the replys guys, few more questionsI'm not grinding the galv off, should i be doing that?two of the joints are made with 2 horizontal pieces overlapping, here is where i'm having most problems, the top piece of the lap joint is the one that is melting away (i'm only stitching it across the joint, i'm not doing a constant cord along it) so my next question:do you work from  the top piece down or from bottom to top?the other joint is a spacer fix at the back, to the two sides making a 90* joint, having one piece horizontal and one vertical, so when i make a good poodle of weld, the whole thing drops on the ground, so:how do you work with gravety?thanks again..
Reply:First, if its sheet, work from top to bottom.  Next, YES you should be grinding off the galv.If you are getting a poodle on the floor, turn the heat down Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Thanks again David, i'll try that..Parweld XTI 140 / XTI 140DV MMA Inverter
