Hi, I'm wondering about what you guys like best for a welding jacket.  I have the cheap old leather apron, but don't really care for it.  So, I'm looking for advice on a decent jacket to protect the clothing.  Thanks.
Reply:I usually only wear Gloves unless I am in a tight spot with no way of getting away from the sparks, but I have coveralls on most of the time at work where I do most of my welding

Reply:I have a good leather jacket I wear when it's cool or I'm doing something that burns up my clothes. If it's really cold coveralls are in order. During warm weather it's just a pair of fire retardant sleeves added to my work colthes. I'm thinking about getting one of those cotton jackets with leather sleeves. If you get a full leather get one that at least has the shoulder area lined. It makes them easier to pull on.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:Just my personal preference.  I have a full leather welding jacket and also a pair of arm leathers.  Hate them both.  I use the jacket as a welding blanket to protect what I don't want burned with splatter.  Weighs about 40 lbs....at least it feels like it does when I am hot, or in a crowded space and can't bend my arms.  I have a Carhartt cotton welding shirt.  All snap buttons, two chest pockets.  If I get a hot bb in the bend of my arm it might burn a small hole if it sits there for a minute.  They fit like a tall, meaning they are longer in the front and back and sleeves.  I wear it over my tee shirt or whatever everyday.  Wash it once a month maybe.  Wouldn't have anything but these shirts. Much cooler, more maneuverability, lighter, and just plain old makes me a happier, more relaxed and efficient welder.

Reply:I have the Green welding shirts, they tend to get filthy from being under my truck.  I also picked up the green apron that i throw over my legs when they are in harms way. cause apparently old ragged jeans are flamable

Reply:Ya, you know when your welding and you feel that little warm spot on you leg... then you think..."that weird 'It' usually fades away by now... "  Then it starts getting warmer and warmer.... OH CRAP I"M ON FIRE!
