Hello Everyone,I have a 180 SD Syncrowave that is acting up. It is about 10 years old, and has worked like a dream since day one. Until last night that is.... the welder is starting the HF arc just fine, but then I cant get full power out of it. Is there something obvious that I should look at to get it working correctly again?Any advise or ideas would be great.Z
Reply:Chris,Need a lot more information before we can even try to help.AC/DCTig/StickAmp settings.Intermittent/constantType remote if any.etcCould be something as simple as a bad potentiometer in the foot pedal.Do you get full power when stick welding?Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:welcome to the forum Chris.May be the belt slipped/broke in the foot control considering the age. May also be the potentiometer in the foot control as well. You can do an initial check of the FC operation at the plug.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Thanks for the Welcome!Just tested the foot pedal. Opened it up and put the meter on the leads from the potentiometer.... Seems to be working fine. So any new leads would be great!Z
Reply:Thank you for the resources! Can you give me the procedures that will help me test what is working and what is not working? Already see that the pot on the pedal is functioning correctly. Not sure of the exact specs, but I am getting a resistance change when I move the pedal.Any and all help is appreciated.Thank You!Chris Z
Reply:I know you don't want to hear this but my guess would be control board and although I have a newer 180 I have to suggest you PM forum member weldersales (Larry Burross) as he can give you a better 'long distance' diagnosis. He can also be reached at Allied Equipment, Inc., Dallas TX, (214) 630-9353.edit: Whoa! - I was a little late on the post.Last edited by duaneb55; 07-28-2009 at 11:31 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Sold.....sounds like the best option right now.Thank you for the resource. I will give him a call in the morning. What is the going rate for a control board? Also have to put the factor that the machine is in a 120 degree when its nice out shop...I live in Tempe, AZ and it is hot as all get out here.... Fried the DRO on my milling machine a few years ago. Then bought a Newall DRO...happy times now.If there is any diagnosis I can do here and now, I would love to hear it. Otherwise I will wait until tomorrow and make a phone call.Z
Reply:Hold on...spend a few hundred dollars on my baby or grand on another machine with an unknown past?My desire is to fix this one, because for 10 years it has served every need. I know there are new goodies out there that are pretty cool. But it would take 3-4 grand for me to buy a machine that is marginally better, and has more power. I don't want to buy something else unless there is a really good reason to do so. Is there?Z |
