After seeing the various post from Zap and others getting together and holding a class. I think it's time for us to do something down south. If I was to put something together here in GA how much interest would there be? I realize it might be better to hold it in the Atlanta area since it seems the majority of the members here are from the northern areas. Any of you northern guys have a location that is a possibility? I might be able to get a hold to a location in the Carrollton area possibly. I am not against hosting it here, but being out in the sticks there is no hotels, restaurants, etc... I thought it might be a better turn out closer to the majority and with a few conveniences close by. Let me know what you guys think, and lets see what we can put together. Will be a good time for all, and should prove to be a good learning experience as I know there is plenty of talent on this board from the area to swap skills, secrets, and help some of the more inexperienced guys. I can bring my welding truck as well as my welding trailer. I can load up a mig, and a small tig machine if need be. So guys let me know what you think. ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:I'm game! I'm way up in North Ga on the Tennesee border, but a road trip sounds fun.If alot of us are gonna be driving a ways, we should make it a campout/drinking event for a weekend or something.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:I am interested, but very tied up around the end of october...I might be able to travel on a long day trip...Unfortunately, I just moved and I am trying to clear out my old house to sell, so I am kind of out-of-shop right now...New shop to be started soon...However, given the right schedule/location, I could supply a powcon or two with feeders, leads, and consumables (maybe even an 11-pack of beer...that's a consumable right?!) to the effort...Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I wish someone would hold one here!!!!(Dallas area, more like Denton)I think it's a great idea for us no welding sunofaguns to get pointers from the pros.11 pack?I thought they were allways 8 packs???
Reply:I just moved from Houston to the Atlanta area (Snellville) and would be interested. However, deer season is coming up as well as all the year end holidays so the next few months are really going to be busy.

Reply:I’m curious! Is there not many Colleges or High schools that offer welding training in the states? I have seen a few threads offering basic welding training from some of the veteran welders on this forum and that is great, but I have noticed that a number of the members are willing to drive/fly quite some distance to attend a weekend or week long training course. Up here in British Columbia (and many other provinces as well) there are High school metalworking shops that offer a introductory course to basic welding during the evenings or weekends. Or for those that choose welding as a career there are numerous technical colleges all over the province. The training at the High schools is quite inexpensive, basically cost of material and some for the instructor but the amount the instructor gets is almost volunteer rates. Most of the high school instructors do this to build time to land the better job at the technical college. So after making a small question into a paragraph statement I was just wondering!

Reply:WOW that is quite something because a few years ago when I did some upgrading one of the biggest decisions was which of the 4 welding schools (technical college) I thought had the best staff and equipment in my area! The furthest being a 45 min drive- the closest one is only 5 min drive!Welding get togethers are a great idea...any location. Good programs (in the west at least) are being phased out. Emphasis being switched to tech jobs. These get togethers are a great opportuniy for people with knowledge to share and others to learn...about welding and probably life in general. Cheers!"deader than downtown alviso on a friday night"

Reply:Guys, I have gotten some PM's from some on the board, and Just letting everyone know that I am still around. This is Harvest season here, and We are working 7days a week sun up to sun down and on call 24-7. So I have been lurking and not had alot of time to post. Things will settle down in a month or two, and I am devoting some time to put us something together in the Atlanta area. I think I already have a probably location. I am glad to see there is such a large interest. After seeing the work of some of you guys here on the forums I am sure we can all learn something from each other, and have a great time to boot. ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:JacksonI live in Villa Rica.Let me know if I can help you out, I'm retired and available 24/7.I'm quite familiar with Atlanta.I have a Lincoln A/C D/C and need all the help I can get.Doing what I like
Reply:Popwri, I will definitely be in touch. I know Villa rica well. My mother was the assistant principal at the primary school there for a few years before moving out to the whitesburg elementary, and just retired this year. She lives in Carrollton. Dave, no such luck here. lol It never gets that cold here in Ga anymore. Zap, That's exactly what I'm doing man. As alot of you guys know the majority of my business is in agricultural repair. From August to Nov. is gathering season here, and it's always wide open nonstop. Then it dies until Feb/mar. around here. So you bust your hump, make a killing and then live off of it until everyone goes back to work. I have other clients not ag related but without the farmers it definitely slows down. But hey, a break is nice, and it coincides with hunting season, so I usually take my vacation during the winter months. Anyway, guys, I am working on this, and will definitely be back intouch to let everyone know what I have come up with soon. So just keep an eye on the thread, and I'll be checking in from time to time. Just getting back from a call at the peanut mill. (at 2:15 in the morning) so I'm hitting the sack. ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Bringing this back to life. I never did get me a welder, but still REALLY want to. Just wondering if there was ever a get together?
Reply:Yes, there was a get together. It was held at tubular fab's shop in Braselton. We had a good group of guys. Tubular fab and I have been Pm'ing each other about doing another Georgia welding meet sometime soon. I am working on a location that is a little more central to everyone. I am waiting to hear back from a couple of friends about dates as we speak. So keep and eye out for a new thread.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

I might have a location to do this,I am an instructor and have compacity for about 24 students(6 engine drives,14 SMAW/GMAW and 4+ GTAW stations. This is all new and up to date equipment ! there might be a small fee to cover expences, but we would have large verity of equipment and consumables.
