pressure washer knowledge request?

Hi ,all  Sometime ago I reading some post about pressure washers.  A few guy's posted some real good info about them..   I can't remeber what was said and I can't find the thread.Besides needing help with my memory I need some help on a new pressure washer.Here what I think I'am after.   4000 psi around 3 to 4 gpm,  gas Honda motor or maybe a Briggs I would like to keep under a $1000. what should I look out for ?  what's a good pump brand?I would like it for washer old tractors to restore lawn mowers, boats and muddy atvs.         Something that will peel paint and stickers.  The way I look at it you can always put in a bigger tip if you have to much pressure.  Any good places to pick one up. besides Home depot tsc Menards, lowes and northen tool.Thanks, Daye

Reply:I had a friend that had an electric one and it made me freak out when the gun hose was 25' and the unit gets misted or rained on constantly ...the rain would even wrap around the house....I suppose in an indoor inviroment you could isolate it some how... Reply:I agree with DesertRider33, Craigslist would be the way to go.  Then go to Lowes or Northern Tool and get a "Turbo Nozzle" for it.
Reply:well you will not want to go less then 4.5GPM for the tractor stuff, I would not think. but you will want to look for one with diesel boiler with it cause the cold water will not clean the grease off the tractors without alot of degreaser. you can find a smaller one with boiler attached for about $1200 used more in a farm community tho.. when lookin an itallian or english built pump I have found best quality. I have a local guy that set up car washes and he sells used ones for just under $1000 with a boiler. so start buy goin to local car wash and there will be a seviced by sticker somewhere in the building thats how I found my guy best way for sure..
Reply:I have a DeWalt with a 13 horse Honda motor and the pump is touted at 3750 psi from DeWalt.  I have had it for three years and just today replaced the pump.  When I bought it three years ago, it was 995.00 at Home Depot.  If I had it to do over, I would do the same thing, I think.The better washers are belt drive, whereas this one is direct drive.  Here's a tip for you...Make sure you have the handle squeezed before trying to start it.  Otherwise, it is like trying to pullstart a 150 hp outboard motor.
