For the last year or so, I have been tripping over all my steel and aluminum stock since its was all piled up on the floor, under the welding table, or outside. Building a rack was on the to do list. I made a trip to my metal supplier for stock when I saw these racks sitting in the back now unused. I asked if they wanted to sell them. To which they replyed "Sure $100 a piece, of $150 for both". Um will you take a check? You couldn't even buy materials to build a rack for $150. They where double sided racks when I bought them. I took all the arms off one side and cut the bottom legs off. I then slid them in the shop against the wall and loaded it up with materials. I also still have 100 or so spare arms. Now I need to find 3 more towers and make a short stock rack with theses arms. Reply:I wish I had more material for my new rack. It seems to empty when you look at it in person. Oh well, have to land a few more jobs to get some left over stock to fill it up.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:I don't know what your spacing is now but I am guess about every 3-4 foot. I would take 2 of those out of there and just spreading out the rest, maybe one every 7 foot then you would have 4 used to cover 21 foot long pieces and the 2 extra could be used for a rack set at 4 foot apart which you could use for everything shorter then 7 foot. If you want to pile short short pieces (less then 4 foot) on the short rack get a sheet metal pan made for one of the sets of arms so you can put any length on it. -DanOwnerDW Metalworks LLCMiller Trailblazer 302Miller 8RC FeederMiller Passport PlusMiller Dynasty 200 DX W/Coolmate 1Hobart Handler 135Hypertherm PowerMAX 30Smith O/A Torch SetPlus much much more |
