OK.. so here's the deal. I come from a heavy equipment background, tho I have worked and welded on about everything. About 8 months ago I took a job at a JD dealer. We do mosltly lawn tractors, compact utility tractors and skid steers, with a few mini X's just for fun. Anywho.. we are in desperate need of a good mig welder. Boss gave the go ahead... Get what ya need! OK! So I'm leaning toward a Miller 185 or a 210. Our welding will consist of anything from sheetmetal decks of 16 ga thru 1/4 plate. What are your suggestions?Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic
Reply:I would get the Millermatic 252. Working on that stuff it will give you a little room for more amperage if needed. The heavy equipment shop I used to work at had a Deltaweld we kept .052 dual shield wire in, and a Millermatic 250 for the smaller stuff. The 250 did well on steel up to 3/8" thick. I know they advertise thicker than that, but I believe they are a little exagerated on that claim..............................."Look Good Doing It"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
