Get all you can. Things will turn around, you can see glimmers that the worst is past.  There is still a long way to go.Your problem is getting that first job to get hours. By the time you are finished things should be OK again. You are making a decision that you will have to live with for decades. I think you will not be disappointed, but, today, get an apprenticeship first.
Reply:The economic situation is Ontario sux right now. The auto industries are hurting, as are energy, mining, and forestry. The Liberal provincial government and Daulton Mcginty have done little to assist. They did give a bunch of $$ to the auto industry and received no guaranties for their $$. Poor investment of you ask me. Even Alberta (the oil rich province) is is in an economic slowdown. They are laying off out there too right now. Saskatchewan on the other hand is picking up.There are MANY unemployed welders across the country right now. Get yourself some good education training and experience first. Then worry about looking for work.Last edited by snoeproe; 08-13-2009 at 08:15 PM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:"enough books and you can know everythin .You my friend will never know everything, nor will anyone else. You can become an expert, but this happens because you are continually learning and practising. For instance take a newbie who reads all month on how to scratch start an arc when stick welding, then put him in the field with a machine,he better have a biggg handful of rods and a bucket of patience or he quickly becomes disillusioned.  FelonCaution lurker lives here" hmmm That is serious, pass the ganja and pick up a  24 of MGD"

Reply:I think you gentlemen may wish to take a step back, and a long slow breath....Re-read this thread from the beginning, and you will see that this "Snappy101" individual is so Green that he totally misses the point when someone fires a zinger at him about reading, and comprehension...From what I read, he believes he can learn EVERYTHING about welding from a book, and does not have any faith in Mentorship, or learning from more experienced co-workers, because it's "better to think and fully understand something through personal study then have someone teach you because they might miss stuff in the explination and such which the book would fully explain." Wow... There are a LOT of Teachers in Grade School, and Instructors in Technical Schools just hoping that THAT little tidbit of information doesn't get out. I guess all the techniques will come to him in a dream?ROFLMAO.I can appreciate you fellas getting irritated at the pup for his imputence, but Honestly, the Real World will chew him up and spit him out soon enough, so I wouldn't bother getting too upset.Have a Good Night.Last edited by Black Wolf; 08-16-2009 at 01:20 AM.Later,Jason
